Tanzania Cultural Tours

Explore Tanzania’s thriving cities and villages

Immerse yourself in Tanzanian culture. Tanzania has 130 different cultural groups representing all the African ethnic groups. We carefully hand-pick our cultural tours ensuring empowerment for local communities rather than being imposing on their daily lives.

Guests are also welcome to visit our local artisans who collectively built our beautiful Wayo Africa Camps.

Cultural Experiences in Arusha & Manyara

Arusha City Tour

This tour will take you inside the workings of the busy little town of Arusha. You have the opportunity to visit a school, church, local market and have a drink in a local pub. This will be one of the most interesting experiences of your trip to Tanzania.

Arusha: Visit Local Markets (Tengeru or Usa River)

Depending on the day of the week and where you are staying, you can visit Usa River (Thur & Sun), Tengeru (Wed & Sat) or Arusha Kilombero food & vegetable market (every day). Your Guide will tell you more about the process of local markets and help you to communicate with vendors.

Arusha: Local Village Walk

There’s no better opportunity to get a feel for the Tanzanian way of life. Walk through the farms, schools, local shops and get to experience the fantastic hospitality of the locals, as well as the beautiful smiles of the many kids you will see on the way! Your Guide will have plenty to share about the daily life in the area.

Manyara: Mto Wa Mbu Village Walk

Visit Mto Wa Mbu village for a great cultural experience with an experienced, English speaking Guide who grew up in the village. Visit local farms, food markets, rice paddies, Banana Beer Bar and local activities. Ideal to do on the way in or out of Manyara National Park.

Manyara: Mto Wa Mbu Tuk Tuk Village Ride

People who don’t have time, energy or the ability to walk in the village, can do a village tour in a Tuk Tuk. Being light, small and easy to ride this vehicle is ideal to get between farms and local houses. A Tuk Tuk can carry up to 3 passengers on a bench seat behind a driver and a Guide. The sides of the vehicle are open so you can still have a great feeling of being outside and connected with the people and places. The village tour takes you to farms, local houses, schools, milling machines, churches and more.

Locally handmade camps

Visit the amazingly talented local artisans who created so many of the stunning pieces which feature in our Wayo Africa Camps. From acacia thorn lamp shades seen here to beaded Maasai belted headboard straps, see where the magic happens.
