Wayo Africa Camps

Combining the best of Safari experiences in remote areas of the parks with exceptional guiding and awe-inspiring camps.

The Wayo Africa camp portfolio is designed to provide both comfort and authentic experiences. All our camps are positioned in extremely remote locations with a commitment to be away from the crowds. Locally handcrafted and with an abundance of out-of-camp experiences the priority is on immersing our guests into the true Tanzania experience.

How do the Wayo Africa Camps work?

Most of our camps are located inside the Serengeti National Park. This is a seasonal park where herds move and areas can become very dry. All our camps in the Serengeti are mobile and have multiple locations. Some camps move more than others. We have one permanent camp in Manyara National Park which is a year-round location and does not suffer with seasonability as much as the Serengeti.

Our camps are set away from the crowded areas but are positioned to maximise on wildlife experiences.

How to use our Wayo Africa Camps

It is always best to book our camps either through us or another reputable Safari operator. Logistics of organising a stay in a Safari camp in Tanzania is quite challenging. Camps are located in remote regions and conditions in the parks can sometimes be challenging. By booking your stay as part of an extended Safari, you allow an experienced team to tailor a Safari to your needs.

What is the difference between the camps?

Our camps are located in different locations but also hold varying levels of adventure. Wayo Manyara Green Camp is a permanent camp whereas our other camps are mobile. Our team can support you with itinerary design or you can get some ideas using our sample itineraries.

All our camps can be booked on a full board basis (FB: food, drinks and accommodation) or a Game Package basis (GP: food, drinks, accommodation & vehicle and guide).

If you are planning a full Safari Circuit you may already have booked a private Safari vehicle and Guide so we would book you onto FB. If you are flying into the park without a Guide then you will need GP.

Every thread and drop of water is considered

We strive to make sure that all our operations in Tanzania give back to local people and conserve the environment. All our camps are locally handmade and encourage a movement of positive tourism where local communities see the benefit of preserving parks and supporting tourism.

We use solar power in all our camps and are very careful with water-use. We catch rainwater where we can. Most of our camps use bucket showers where water is scarce so we can monitor our water-use and where flush toilets are present, we use low-flush. That is why we call them ‘Green Camps’.

Children in the Wilderness

The sad fact is that all parks in Tanzania still suffer from poaching. Wayo Africa also supports local communities who live on the boundaries of the parks where we operate our Safaris. We support schools and villages in sustainable farming practises, vocational education programmes and have eco-clubs within schools to support an understanding about conservation and preserving the National Parks.

With most employment in the Safari industry being sourced from larger towns and cities, we aim to empower these lower-skilled communities who live within reach of the Safari Parks. This will reduce their reliance on illegal poaching.
